Postpartum Things to Do in Guelph

Hey there, new moms! Holly here from Glass Rose Productions. As a photographer specializing in newborn and family portraits, I've worked with countless families going through those foggy but precious early postpartum days. I know how overwhelming it can feel, which is why I'm sharing some of the best things for new moms to do around Guelph during this postpartum time.

Getting Out For Light Exercise & Fresh Air

One of the best things you can do postpartum is to get some gentle exercise and spend time outdoors. The benefits for your mental health are huge! Guelph has lots of beautiful parks and trails that are perfect for a relaxing stroller walk. A couple of my favorites are:

Riverside Park - With its paved trails looping along the Speed River, this park makes for an easy walk while enjoying nature. The tranquil setting can be very restorative.

The Arboretum - Meander along the tree-lined paths and soak up some fresh air at the University of Guelph's stunning arboretum. The botanical gardens here are glorious!

Joining a Postnatal Yoga Class

In those first months, taking time for yourself is so important. Treating your body to some low-impact yoga can work wonders! Moksha Yoga offers postnatal classes that focus on rebuilding strength and regaining flexibility. The relaxation baked into every class is incredibly rejuvenating too.

Pampering at Local Spas & Salons

Every new mom deserves a little pampering! Book yourself a massage, facial, or another treat at a local Guelph spa. An hour of self-care can make such a difference in your postpartum journey. Don't feel guilty - you've earned this!

Connecting with Other New Moms

Having a strong support system is key in the postpartum period. I highly recommend checking out the postpartum support groups and programming offered by places like Guelph Community Health Centre

Early ON Child & Family Centers

Swapping stories, getting advice, and simply being around others going through the same life stage can be so reassuring when you're a new parent. You can pick Guelph Midwives or another center that you find credible and helpful.

Cultural Activities & Day Dates

When you are ready to get out and explore, Guelph has lots of gentle cultural activities that are easy to enjoy with a newborn. Visit the Guelph Civic Museum, grab a coffee at a cafe like Red Brick Café, or browse the shelves at the Public Library. Simple outings like these can be amazingly refreshing.

Self-Care at Home

Of course, some days the very best thing is canceling all your plans and taking it easy at home. Soak in the precious newborn moments by snuggling up and binge-watching a new show, listening to music, or diving into a good book.

Remember, there's no need to put pressure on yourself! This stage passes so quickly, so be kind to yourself. Soak up all those special, sleepy newborn snuggles.

Need Newborn Photos?

Speaking of soaking it all in, I'd love to help you capture some precious memories of this fleeting season. As a newborn photographer in Guelph, my favorite moments are when families can totally relax and be themselves during our sessions. If you'd like to document these early days, reach out! I'm always here to guide new parents through the process.

Most importantly, know that every bit of nurturing you give to yourself pays dividends for your baby. You've got this!
